Job Captain (updated 01-11-25)
Christie Architecture seeks candidates for a Job Captain position to support design and delivery of high-end residential projects under the direction of the principals at our SW Portland, Oregon studio.
Expected Role: Key support for projects across the firm working directly with principals, including, but not limited to: understanding design goals, leading the preparation of drawing sets at all phases (design presentations through CDs), permitting, and following projects through construction. The qualified candidate will have unique exposure to multiple projects at all levels.
Job functions include:
- Plan, organize, and manage the efforts of a production team to produce high quality construction documents.
- Work with design principals for design direction.
- Assist with consultant coordination.
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and professionalism of documentation.
- Assist with construction administration of projects.
- Mentor internal project team sharing experience with younger staff.
Required skills & experience
- Minimum of 6 years of work experience in SD through CA phases.
- Has residential architectural experience.
- Has a professional degree, from an accredited college, in architecture.
- Experience with design/delivery process and leading document production with BIM. Understands appropriate detail levels for each phase. Archicad experience preferred; however, we understand many architecture offices use Revit and we will train as necessary.
- Experience with consulting engineer coordination.
- Knowledge of local jurisdictional codes and processes (zoning, building). Experience obtaining agency approvals.
- Can lead/teach intern architects on projects.
- Enjoys the technical side of architecture.
- Demonstrates a passion for high-end, elegant design and precision details.
- Is very detail-oriented and organized; likes process and follow-through. Is able to manage and prioritize tasks for multiple projects at one time.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Schedule: Part time to start. Opportunity for full time dependent on experience.
Compensation: Hourly, commensurate with experience.
Location: Work expected to be on site at our SW Portland studio. No remote work.
Our Firm: Christie Architecture is a small studio practice focused on projects in Oregon and Washington. Most projects are custom single-family residential, but we also work on small commercial projects.
