searles-jones kitchen

Location: Portland, Oregon

This project involved the expansion and gut renovation of an existing kitchen in a 1950’s ranch house. The kitchen was enlarged by extending the space into an existing laundry room and by removing a bulky refrigerator cabinet and a partial wall that blocked the view from the kitchen to the eating area.

The flush inset cabinets are arranged in a Mondrian pattern in order to maximize custom storage options and lend a sense of movement and energy to the space. Mahogany was chosen for the cabinets in order to match the existing trim in the house. Rich green granite extends the length of the counters and up the entire wall behind the range hood, creating a focal point for the kitchen. Commercial grade cork was chosen for the floors for its warmth and durability.
