mayberry bathroom
This project involved the renovation and expansion of an existing bathroom in a 1925 Craftsman home. A new dormer was built to house the renovated space. The shower pan was recessed in order to make the space seem larger – there is no curb or step at the shower threshold and no curtain or glass door. Full-length mirrors were designed into the doors of the closet to reflect the view of the mountains from the opposite windows. The vanities are designed as furniture to extend the feeling of spaciousness.
All the casework is custom designed and crafted of Honduran mahogany. The floor and wall tile is tumbled travertine. A band of red stone mosaic tiles below the chair rail adds warmth and color to the room. The butter yellow walls above the tile are integrally colored Venetian plaster.
This project was published in Fine Homebuilding magazine’s ‘Kitchens and Baths’ issue in 2006 and 2011, in the Oregonian’s lifestyle magazine, ‘Ultimate,’ in 2007, and in the ‘For Pros by Pros’ Bathroom Remodeling book in 2011.
