eide shower room

Location: Portland, Oregon

This project involved the gut renovation of an existing master suite that suffered from a lack of privacy between the bedroom and bathroom.

By building two full height walls within the space, the tub/shower/toilet room and the sink/closet room each became their own entity and were separated from the bedroom. Yet by vaulting the ceilings, and utilizing pocket doors, the two rooms feel open and spacious.

Both rooms are finished with glass mosaic tile on the floor and one wall. The sidewalls are covered with waterproof, integrally colored plaster. In the shower room, the wall behind the new whirlpool tub is one continuous piece of Corian, providing a smooth background for three glass bubble lights that appear to float above the tub. The toilet is wall mounted, allowing the floor tile to slide underneath and making the room feel larger. The custom cabinetry is crafted from straight-grained walnut. Fixtures are brushed nickel. The mirrors above the sink hide custom medicine cabinets. Countertops are polished white Corian.
